What happened

I lent my brother €12,000 for his business and never wrote anything down, because writing it down felt insulting. Four years later nobody mentions it and we barely speak.

Write it down or treat it as a gift. There is no third option that keeps the relationship intact.

I earned well from 24 but spent all of it. I told myself I would start saving when I earned more. I always earned more, and I always spent it all.

Saving is a habit, not an income level. A small automatic transfer at 24 would have been worth more than a large one at 40.
